Croatian filmmaker Dalibor Matanić shows the dangers and the enduring strength of forbidden love in The High Sun. The film contains three different love stories, set in three consecutive decades, in two neighbouring Balkan villages burdened with a long history of inter-ethnic hatred. The two actors starring in the three stories, Tihana Lazović and Goran Marković, bring to life complex characters who have to deal with the consequences of war on peoples’ mentalities, and how that can change the way human beings experience love. The High Sun won the Special Jury Prize in the Un Certain Regard Section at the 2015 edition of the Cannes Film Festival.

Something Must Break is a labels free love story. Set in Stockholm, the film shows androgynous Sebastian, who dresses as a woman and often gets lost in the darkness of night as he looks for sexual adventures with strangers. When he meets Andreas everything is different, he is not gay but he can’t help himself from feeling attracted to Sebastian’s fragile femininity. The couple spend the time together running through the streets, dancing on rooftops and drinking in parks. Passion carries both away, until the point where things start to get dangerous. Something Must Break won the Tiger Award for best film at the Rotterdam Film Festival in 2014.
